Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid twisted arms and cut back-room deals to obtain the 60 votes needed to bring ObamaCare to the floor of the Senate before leaving town for Thanksgiving.
But now that the Senate is back in session, Reid, Barack Obama and other proponents of government-run health care still need 60 votes to pass ObamaCare... 60 votes they still do not have.
That means, we can still win the battle to stop ObamaCare once and for all.
And Harry Reid and Barack Obama know it too. That’s why they are twisting even more arms and cutting even more behind-the-scenes deals at this very moment.
In fact, as you read this urgent letter, Reid and Obama are desperately doing whatever it takes to entice and coerce moderate Democrats, including Senators Ben Nelson, Blanche Lincoln and Mary Landrieu who claim to be on the fence. They are even trying to convince some RINOs (Republicans-In-Name-Only), like Senator Olympia Snowe, to vote for ObamaCare.
That's why we must keep pushing... that's why we must act now and counter this last desperate blitz by proponents of government-run health care.
If we do nothing, Reid and Obama will succeed. If we take action, our chances of victory are very good... it is that simple.
If Reid does not get the 60 votes he so desperately needs, ObamaCare will die a quick and unceremonious death... it will be finished... the battle against government-run health care for the foreseeable future will be won... for you... for your family... and for all of the American people.
Stopping Harry Reid from getting the 60 votes he so desperately needs means... no drastic cuts in Medicare for our nation's senior citizens... no rationing... no doctor's offices that resemble local Department of Motor Vehicle offices... no forcing taxpayers to pay for abortions... and no jail sentences for those who resist ObamaCare.

McDonald v. City of Chicago
As we reported last week, on November 16, the NRA filed its brief with the U.S. Supreme Court as Respondent in Support of Petitioner in McDonald v. City of Chicago. The NRA brief asks the U.S. Supreme Court to hold that the Second Amendment applies to state and local governments through the Fourteenth Amendment.
The McDonald case is one of several that were filed immediately after last year's decision in District of Columbia v. Heller, in which the Court upheld the Second Amendment as an individual right and invalidated Washington, D.C.'s ban on handgun possession, as well as the capital city's ban on keeping loaded, operable firearms for self-defense in the home.

•President Obama boldly proclaimed that "transparency and the rule of law will be the touchstones of this presidency," but his administration is addicted to secrecy, stonewalling virtually all of Judicial Watch's Freedom of Information Act requests.
•The Obama White House has turned the National Endowment of the Arts (and the agency that runs the AmeriCorps program) into propaganda machines, using your tax dollars to persuade "artists" to promote the Obama agenda! According to documents uncovered by Judicial Watch, the idea emerged as a direct result of the Obama campaign and enjoyed White House approval and participation.
•President Obama has installed a record number of "czars" in positions of power. Too many of these individuals are leftist radicals who answer to no one but the president. And too many of the czars are not subject to Senate confirmation (which raises serious constitutional questions).

WASHINGTON — The United States government is financing its more than trillion-dollar-a-year borrowing with i.o.u.’s on terms that seem too good to be true.
But that happy situation, aided by ultralow interest rates, may not last much longer.
Treasury officials now face a trifecta of headaches: a mountain of new debt, a balloon of short-term borrowings that come due in the months ahead, and interest rates that are sure to climb back to normal as soon as the Federal Reserve decides that the emergency has passed.
Even as Treasury officials are racing to lock in today’s low rates by exchanging short-term borrowings for long-term bonds, the government faces a payment shock similar to those that sent legions of overstretched homeowners into default on their mortgages.
With the national debt now topping $12 trillion, the White House estimates that the government’s tab for servicing the debt will exceed $700 billion a year in 2019, up from $202 billion this year, even if annual budget deficits shrink drastically. Other forecasters say the figure could be much higher.
In concrete terms, an additional $500 billion a year in interest expense would total more than the combined federal budgets this year for education, energy, homeland security and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The potential for rapidly escalating interest payouts is just one of the wrenching challenges facing the United States after decades of living beyond its means.
The surge in borrowing over the last year or two is widely judged to have been a necessary response to the financial crisis and the deep recession, and there is still a raging debate over how aggressively to bring down deficits over the next few years. But there is little doubt that the United States’ long-term budget crisis is becoming too big to postpone.
Americans now have to climb out of two deep holes: as debt-loaded consumers, whose personal wealth sank along with housing and stock prices; and as taxpayers, whose government debt has almost doubled in the last two years alone, just as costs tied to benefits for retiring baby boomers are set to explode.
The competing demands could deepen political battles over the size and role of the government, the trade-offs between taxes and spending, the choices between helping older generations versus younger ones, and the bottom-line questions about who should ultimately shoulder the burden.
“The government is on teaser rates,” said Robert Bixby, executive director of the Concord Coalition, a nonpartisan group that advocates lower deficits. “We’re taking out a huge mortgage right now, but we won’t feel the pain until later.”
So far, the demand for Treasury securities from investors and other governments around the world has remained strong enough to hold down the interest rates that the United States must offer to sell them. Indeed, the government paid less interest on its debt this year than in 2008, even though it added almost $2 trillion in debt.
The government’s average interest rate on new borrowing last year fell below 1 percent. For short-term i.o.u.’s like one-month Treasury bills, its average rate was only sixteen-hundredths of a percent.
“All of the auction results have been solid,” said Matthew Rutherford, the Treasury’s deputy assistant secretary in charge of finance operations. “Investor demand has been very broad, and it’s been increasing in the last couple of years.”
The problem, many analysts say, is that record government deficits have arrived just as the long-feared explosion begins in spending on benefits under Medicare and Social Security. The nation’s oldest baby boomers are approaching 65, setting off what experts have warned for years will be a fiscal nightmare for the government.
“What a good country or a good squirrel should be doing is stashing away nuts for the winter,” said William H. Gross, managing director of the Pimco Group, the giant bond-management firm. “The United States is not only not saving nuts, it’s eating the ones left over from the last winter.”

One factor was the economic crisis itself, which caused panicked investors around the world to plow their money into the comparative safety of Treasury bills and notes. On top of that, the Fed used almost every tool in its arsenal to push interest rates down even further. It cut the overnight federal funds rate, the rate at which banks lend reserves to one another, to almost zero. And to reduce longer-term rates, it bought more than $1.5 trillion worth of Treasury bonds and government-guaranteed securities linked to mortgages.

investigation of all of President Obama's czars

JW Obtains Documents on Obama FCC "Diversity Czar" Mark Lloyd's Official Mission, Duties and Responsibilities
As I mentioned a few weeks ago, Judicial Watch has launched a comprehensive investigation of all of President Obama's czars by filing a FOIA request with the Office of Management and Budget, as well as requests with each separate "czar" office.
This week we obtained documents from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regarding "Diversity Czar" Mark Lloyd. Specifically, the documents describe Lloyd's mission, responsibilities and duties.
According to the documents, Lloyd's mission is: "to open up opportunities for all Americans, in particular women, minorities, small business owners, to participate in and benefit from a robust communications marketplace." Among Lloyd's duties and responsibilities: "To work with the Consumer Bureau (and other bureaus as appropriate) to collect relevant data and assess the interaction between communications service providers and consumers in minority communities...to consult with other federal agencies to determine best practices for advancing the goal of greater inclusion and diversity in government programs."
There's that word again, "diversity."
You may recall in May, we uncovered documents that demonstrate that the FCC plans to use this professed goal of "diversity" to regulate free speech in the media. For example, in December 2007, the FCC proposed new "localism" measures to force broadcast stations to offer programming more "responsive to the needs and interests of the communities that they are licensed to serve." Many legal analysts have said such "localism" policies represent a backdoor into the controversial Fairness Doctrine, which the Obama administration claims to oppose.
Now let me tell you why Mark Lloyd is a very dangerous person to have presiding over such a massive underhanded effort.
Lloyd has gotten himself into hot water repeatedly for making a number of controversial (and revealing) statements on race. For example, during a conference in 2005, Lloyd said:
There's nothing more difficult than this. Because we have really, truly good white people in important positions. And the fact of the matter is that there are a limited number of those positions. And unless we are conscious of the need to have more people of color, gays, other people in those positions we will not change the problem. We're in a position where you have to say who is going to step down so someone else can have power.
During a 2008 National Conference for Media Reform, Lloyd also said Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez's rise to power was "really an incredible revolution - a democratic revolution."

By the way, Judicial Watch also requested information pertaining to Lloyd's office staffing and budget for operation and administration. However, according to FCC Associate General Counsel Joel Kaufman, "We could locate no records responsive to…parts of your request. While Mr. Lloyd shares support staff with others in OGC (Office of General Counsel), no one was hired or assigned specifically to support him in his work. His position is funded out of the agency's fiscal year budget…but he has no separate budget for operation and administration."
Too many of Obama's czars appear to be serving in violation of the U.S. Constitution.
Article II section 2 of the Constitution, states that, "...[the President] shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the Supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law."
Unlike the heads of other executive departments (such as the Secretaries of Energy, Transportation, etc.), most of Obama's "czars" have not been confirmed by the U.S. Senate or had their positions authorized by Congress. Some of these appointees might not have even been subjected to a basic FBI background check. Importantly, some of these "czars" work for the president in the White House – this means they would be highly unlikely that they would testify before Congress. And they may not be subject to transparency laws.
Obama seems to have a "czar" for everything, and too many wield power with zero congressional or public accountability. Considering the radical views of "czars" like Mark Lloyd, the more information the American people can get the better. Do we really want a race-baiting promoter of Hugo Chavez presiding over questionable diversity programs at the FCC? Well that's exactly what we've got.
Obama's Broken Promises on Transparency
This week we filed two separate Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuits against the Department of the Treasury and the Federal Reserve in our continuing effort to bring transparency to the federal government's massive taxpayer funded bailouts.
Our request with the Treasury Department on June 19, 2009, relates to a congressional briefing on the financial crisis held by former Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson and Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke on September 18, 2008, as they tried desperately to win congressional approval for their financial bailout plan.
Specifically, we're seeking access to "any and all records pertaining to the September 18, 2008, meeting concerning financially troubled banks. (Participants of this meeting included Henry Paulson, Ben Bernanke, Charles Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, Chris Dodd, and Richard Shelby. The meeting indicated that the economy may be in a meltdown and legislation needed to be drafted quickly.) Records should include, but are not limited to meeting notes, presentations, transcripts, agendas, correspondence, and supplemental material."
You can be sure that Congress was sold a bill of goods. And you can be sure that's why the Treasury Department has not produced any documents, nor has Treasury indicated when documents are forthcoming. (I'm sure the congressional leadership is nervous about how foolish these documents may make them seem.)
With our FOIA request filed with the Fed on September 2, 2009, we're seeking access to any and all visitor logs for meetings with Chairman Bernanke and any and all visitor logs for meetings with Kevin Warsh from August 2007 to the present.
Warsh, who is not an economist by training, currently serves on the prestigious and powerful seven-member Federal Reserve Board of Governors, and has been described by Bloomberg as part of the government's "front-line crisis team" in dealing with the economic crisis.
Again, no documents.
We are now more than a year and trillions of dollars into the government bailout and answers are in short supply. We deserve to know: What was Congress told about the so-called financial crisis and who was lobbying the Fed for taxpayer cash? The American people are growing tired of President Obama's broken promises on transparency.
The Obama administration's stonewalling notwithstanding, we keep pushing forward. Judicial Watch has filed at least 53 FOIA requests related to the government bailouts and at least five related FOIA lawsuits against the Obama administration. More to come for sure.
Judicial Watch Calls on President Obama to Overrule Attorney General Holder's Decision on Khalid Sheik Mohammed Trial
This week, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, mastermind of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, is set to be tried in a New York civil courtroom instead of in front of a military commission in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Why? Because the Obama administration has decided to treat the 9/11 attack as a mere criminal act instead of a war crime.
Simply put, President Obama should overturn Attorney General Eric Holder's decision and bring Mohammed to justice in a military tribunal. Here's the statement I offered to the press on Wednesday:
The decision to bring Mohammed and other Al Qaeda terrorists to New York for a civilian criminal trial is not Eric Holder's to make. President Obama is the Commander in Chief and he is ultimately responsible for the safety and security of this county.
President Obama already reversed Holder on the release of prisoner abuse photos on national security grounds and he should reverse Holder now in the interest of national security. Khalid Sheikh Mohammed should remain in military custody, be kept outside the United States and be brought to justice in the military tribunal system.
An unprecedented civilian trial for the 9/11 terrorists will harm our national security, place government officials and civilians at risk, and provide a propaganda platform to rally and recruit terrorists. And it is no small risk that civilian criminal proceeding may result in the release of these terrorists onto American soil. No one elected Eric Holder to make these types of national security decisions. Eric Holder is making a dangerous mistake, and the President needs to act to protect the country and overrule the Attorney General.
During a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Wednesday, Holder defended his decision to try Mohammed in a federal court, saying, "I know we are at war…The 9/11 attacks were both an act of war and a violation of our federal criminal law, and they could have been prosecuted in either federal courts or military commissions." Holder made the wrong choice.
Judicial Watch has been active on a number of fronts related to national security and terrorism.

And, most recently, in August Judicial Watch obtained a CIA report entitled, Khalid Shaykh Muhammad: Preeminent Source on Al Qa'ida, which documented the information gained by interrogations of Mohammed:

He has provided intelligence that has led directly to the capture of operatives or fleshed out our understanding of the activities of important detainees, which in turn assisted in the debriefings of these individuals.
This document was obtained through a FOIA lawsuit.
According to a CBS News poll, a majority of Americans want terrorists like Mohammed tried in a closed military court. Let's hope the President sees the wisdom in this position and fixes Holder's mistake before too much damage is done.
Judicial Watch strongly opposed Holder's appointment as Attorney General because, among other reasons, he was soft on terrorism. Despite his terrible political and ethics record, he was confirmed. Now some of the same senators (including some conservatives) who voted for him should regret it.
But as is almost always the case in Washington, it will be the American people who pay for the mistake of allowing this corrupt ideologue to serve in high office.
JW Obtains Documents on Obama FCC "Diversity Czar" Mark Lloyd's Official Mission, Duties and Responsibilities
As I mentioned a few weeks ago, Judicial Watch has launched a comprehensive investigation of all of President Obama's czars by filing a FOIA request with the Office of Management and Budget, as well as requests with each separate "czar" office.
This week we obtained documents from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regarding "Diversity Czar" Mark Lloyd. Specifically, the documents describe Lloyd's mission, responsibilities and duties.
According to the documents, Lloyd's mission is: "to open up opportunities for all Americans, in particular women, minorities, small business owners, to participate in and benefit from a robust communications marketplace." Among Lloyd's duties and responsibilities: "To work with the Consumer Bureau (and other bureaus as appropriate) to collect relevant data and assess the interaction between communications service providers and consumers in minority communities...to consult with other federal agencies to determine best practices for advancing the goal of greater inclusion and diversity in government programs."
There's that word again, "diversity."
You may recall in May, we uncovered documents that demonstrate that the FCC plans to use this professed goal of "diversity" to regulate free speech in the media. For example, in December 2007, the FCC proposed new "localism" measures to force broadcast stations to offer programming more "responsive to the needs and interests of the communities that they are licensed to serve." Many legal analysts have said such "localism" policies represent a backdoor into the controversial Fairness Doctrine, which the Obama administration claims to oppose.
Now let me tell you why Mark Lloyd is a very dangerous person to have presiding over such a massive underhanded effort.
Lloyd has gotten himself into hot water repeatedly for making a number of controversial (and revealing) statements on race. For example, during a conference in 2005, Lloyd said:
There's nothing more difficult than this. Because we have really, truly good white people in important positions. And the fact of the matter is that there are a limited number of those positions. And unless we are conscious of the need to have more people of color, gays, other people in those positions we will not change the problem. We're in a position where you have to say who is going to step down so someone else can have power.
During a 2008 National Conference for Media Reform, Lloyd also said Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez's rise to power was "really an incredible revolution - a democratic revolution."

However, according to FCC Associate General Counsel Joel Kaufman, "We could locate no records responsive to…parts of your request. While Mr. Lloyd shares support staff with others in OGC (Office of General Counsel), no one was hired or assigned specifically to support him in his work. His position is funded out of the agency's fiscal year budget…but he has no separate budget for operation and administration."

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The League of American Voters and Dick Morris have launched GenHope.com, a powerful Web hub for an intensive education campaign to generate public opinion among young voters to defeat Obamacare.
"The key vulnerability in Obama's healthcare plan is the financial burden it will impose on young people and their families,” said Morris, the chief strategist of the League of American Voters. “It threatens them with jail if they do not either get high cost health insurance (averaging $15,000 per family in premiums) or pay a fine of 2.5 percent of their income to the government. With friends like these, the young uninsured Americans don't need enemies."
The League’s campaign, billed “Generation Hope,” is targeted toward the difficult-to-reach voters, ages 18-29, who don’t watch cable news or closely follow politics. It blends a traditional paid-media strategy on broadcast television with a “new media” campaign powered by a cutting-edge Web operation.
“Voters under 30 are the strongest supporters of Obama’s plan,” said Bob Adams, executive director of the League of American Voters. “Until they learn Obama imposes heavy fines on them, not to mention taxes on wheelchairs, pacemakers, and even breast-milk pumps for working mothers — all to pay for his expensive plan. And that’s just the tip of the dirty needle.”
The under-30 age group gave Barack Obama 66 percent of their vote in the 2008 presidential election, and are the last remaining age demographic group still onboard with the president’s plan.
Seniors originally backed Obamacare, but the League and others launched a national campaign exposing its dangers to the elderly. Almost every national poll today shows seniors strongly oppose Obamacare.
"We believe young voters will wake up to the dangerous reality of Obamacare, just like seniors did," Adams explained.
The League has strong evidence its outreach to young people will work.
A recent League survey found a collapse in support among young voters when they learned the details of the plan.
Under-30 voters backed “the healthcare bill making its way through Congress and supported by President Obama” by a margin of 58 percent to 30 percent, according to the survey.
But when the same groups of voters were provided a fair and unbiased description of the plan, support dropped 13 points to a margin of 55 percent to 40 percent When told specific details of the plan — such as taxes for medical devices, unrealistic cost estimates, rationing for the elderly, and cuts to Medicare — under-30 voters opposed by a margin of 43 percent to 45 percent — a nosedive of 30 points.
To complement its Web strategy, the League is also running a series of TV spots targeted at under-30 voters in keys swings states.
The first ad began airing in four states and is a take-off of the famous Mac commercial. The ad also runs on GenHope.com.
“This is ‘reality-based’ politics, not the ‘make-believe’ fantasy world painted by the White House,” Adams said. “The ‘game’ is over when young people learn just how devastating Obamacare will be for their future and families.”

The enormous grassroots reaction to the outrageous Waxman-Markey energy tax bill passing the U.S. House has slowed Senate progress to a crawl. While cap-and-trade remains a major threat (especially with new "tri-partisan" negotiations betweens Senators Graham, Kerry, and Lieberman), the biggest threat of huge new energy taxes and government controls right now comes not from legislation, but regulation.
Based on a legal theory originally conceived by Climate Czar Carol Browner in the late 1990s, Obama's EPA is moving ahead with greenhouse gases regulations under the 1970 Clean Air Act even though in 1970 global warming hadn't even been invented yet, and the doom-saying scientists were instead warning of an impending ice age!

Why has Team Obama spent as much as 1.4 million dollars in legal fees fighting actions that would compel him to produce his actual birth certificate..
Did long-time CNN anchor Lou Dobbs actually leave CNN and 9 million dollars over the controversy surrounding Barack Obama's refusal to release his actual birth certificate?
The New York Post says so: "Lou Dobbs walked away from more than $9 million when he quit CNN, ending a long-running clash that boiled over during a debate about President Obama's birth certificate...."
But those who have actually watched and listened to Dobbs know the real irony here. The fact of the matter is that Dobbs is NOT, what the media derisively calls, a "birther." In fact, Dobbs has consistently insisted that he believes Barack Obama is the President of the United States.
What plagued Dobbs is his insistence on asking a legitimate and crucial question that Obama has refused to answer... and a question the rest of the media simply refuse to ask.
And that question is, why doesn't Barack Obama simply produce his birth certificate, and put the controversy over his eligibility to be President... to rest.
And Dobbs question begs two more crucial questions:
Why has Team Obama spent as much as 1.4 million dollars in legal fees fighting actions that would compel him to produce his actual birth certificate... a document that would cost him perhaps 10 dollars to release?
Why do Obama's handlers continue to insist that Obama has produced his actual birth certificate when, in fact, he has done no such thing?

Dobbs goes on:
"But what I don't see, with all the controversy, is why he [Obama] just doesn't produce his birth certificate. And what is extraordinary is the firestorm that the left-wing ginned up over that [question]...."

U.S. Rep. Steve King suggests there is more than a coincidence between the resignation of White House communications director Anita Dunn and a raid on ACORN's national office — pointing out that Dunn's husband is "a leading ACORN defender."
Dunn, who is stepping down at the end of the month, created controversy when she led an Obama administration attack on Fox News, calling it "a wing of the Republican Party."
King, an Iowa Republican and a vociferous critic of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, issued a statement on Tuesday under the headline "King: Dunn Departure a Coincidence?" It read in part:
"Four days after Louisiana Attorney General Buddy Caldwell raided ACORN's national office in New Orleans, seizing paper records and computer hard drives, White House communications director Anita Dunn — the wife of a leading ACORN defender — has resigned abruptly from her position.
"Dunn was the lead critic of Fox News for reporting on the ACORN prostitution scandal, which originally broke on September 10. Dunn subsequently launched a public attack against Fox News on October 11, and she even stated 'let's not pretend they're a news network' in reference to Fox. . .
"Not only has Dunn lavished praises on Chairman Mao and compared him to Mother Teresa, Dunn’s husband has a public record of protecting ACORN and protecting President Obama’s relationship to ACORN. . .
"Anita Dunn is married to Robert Bauer, who served as general counsel for Obama for America. In 2008, Bauer sent a letter to then-Attorney General Michael Mukasey arguing that Department of Justice should not investigate election-related fraud allegations against ACORN. . .
"The letter also claims that Republican concerns regarding ACORN-related fraud were 'manufactured.' Subsequent revelations have validated these Republican concerns and proven the existence of additional fraudulent activities."

Second Amendment advocates are expressing alarm that the most significant attack on gun rights across the United States in years soon could come in the form of a workplace "safety" regulation under President Obama's nominee to run the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Obama has nominated David Michaels, a George Washington University professor and the chief of the Project on Scientific Knowledge and Public Policy, which reportedly partially is funded by George Soros.
"The controversial OSHA nominee and left-leaning public health advocate also seems to have strong views on firearms," wrote Walter Olson at Overlawyered.com.
"That's by no means irrelevant to the agenda of an agency like OSHA, because once you start viewing private gun ownership as a public health menace, it begins to seem logical to use the powers of government to urge or even require employers to forbid workers from possessing guns on company premises, up to and including parking lots, ostensibly for the protection of co-workers."

The nonpartisan Joint Committee on Taxation reported that the House version of the healthcare bill specifies that those who don't buy health insurance and do not pay the fine of about 2.5 percent of their income for failing to do so can face a penalty of up to five years in prison!
The bill describes the penalties as follows:
* Section 7203 — Misdemeanor willful failure to pay is punishable by a fine of up to $25,000 and/or imprisonment of up to one year.
* Section 7201 — Felony willful evasion is punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 and/or imprisonment of up to five years." [page 3]
That anyone should face prison for not buying health insurance is simply incredible.
And how much will the stay-out-of-jail insurance cost? The joint committee noted that "according to a recent analysis by the Congressional Budget Office, the lowest-cost family non-group plan under HR 3862 (the Pelosi bill) would cost $15,000 by 2016."
Obama's bill provides only subsidies to help pay this enormous sum after families making about $45,000 have paid 8 percent of their income for insurance and after those earning a household income of about $65,000 have kicked in 12 percent.
The Joint Committee on Taxation noted that, although the Senate Finance Committee version of the bill did not include criminal penalties, "The House Democrats' bill, however, contains no similar language protecting American citizens from civil and criminal tax penalties that could include a $250,000 fine and five years in jail."
Remember that simply buying catastrophic insurance, which may be all the young uninsured family needs, does not constitute having adequate insurance under the Obama bill. It has to be total, all inclusive insurance for one to avoid the penalties in the legislation. That is because Obama wants to use these premiums from the currently uninsured to subsidize his program.
So Pelosi is requiring Americans to pay these steep premiums, or a fine of 2.5 percent of their income for not doing so, or, potentially, go to prison!
Anyone who is familiar with the U.S. prison system can attest to the large number of people incarcerated for similar white collar offenses. That the House bill would treat failure to carry health insurance or pay the fine as tax evasion or willful nonpayment is amazing!

Washington, Nov 6 - Today, Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee Dave Camp (R-MI) released a letter from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) confirming that the failure to comply with the individual mandate to buy health insurance contained in the Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land people in jail. The JCT letter makes clear that Americans who do not maintain “acceptable health insurance coverage” and who choose not to pay the bill’s new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years.
In response to the JCT letter, Camp said: “This is the ultimate example of the Democrats’ command-and-control style of governing – buy what we tell you or go to jail. It is outrageous and it should be stopped immediately.”Key excerpts from the JCT letter appear below:

JCT Confirms Failure to Comply with Democrats’ Mandate Can Lead to 5 Years in Jail
Washington, Nov 6 - Today, Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee Dave Camp (R-MI) released a letter from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) confirming that the failure to comply with the individual mandate to buy health insurance contained in the Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land people in jail. The JCT letter makes clear that Americans who do not maintain “acceptable health insurance coverage” and who choose not to pay the bill’s new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years.
In response to the JCT letter, Camp said: “This is the ultimate example of the Democrats’ command-and-control style of governing – buy what we tell you or go to jail. It is outrageous and it should be stopped immediately.”Key excerpts from the JCT letter appear below:

Pelosi’s Bill Is Even Worse Than You Think. Everything that was intolerable in the first House health care bill (H.R. 3200) , is still in the second incarnation (H.R. 3962)
"Government-run insurance? Still in the bill. Higher taxes? You betcha. An individual mandate that restricts choices and innovation by requiring Washington to define what qualifies as health insurance? Check. A job-killing employer mandate, a budget-busting expansion of the Medicaid entitlement, and countless provisions that set Washington bureaucrats firmly between you and your doctor? Better believe it."
"H.R. 3962 has all the 'government takeover' of H.R. 3200 with an extra thousand pages thrown into the mix. That's a whole lot of government involvement in personal, private health care decisions."
As if that’s not enough, here, courtesy of Congressman Mike Pence's House Republican Conference, are just a few more goodies Pelosi threw in Page 111 - Section 223 establishes a new board of federal bureaucrats (the “Health Benefits Advisory Committee”) to dictate the health plans that all individuals must purchase.
Page 211 - Section 321 establishes a new government-run health plan that, according to non-partisan actuaries at the Lewin Group, would cause as many as 114 million Americans to lose their existing coverage.to H.R. 3962 :
Page 297 - Section 501 imposes a 2.5 percent tax on all individuals who do not purchase “bureaucrat-approved” health insurance - the tax would apply on individuals with incomes under $250,000, thus breaking a central promise of then-Senator Obama’s presidential campaign.
“if you like your plan you can keep your plan” … that you ultimately won’t be forced to live with government-run insurance? Check out this provision… Page 94 - Section 202(c) prohibits the sale of private individual health insurance policies, beginning in 2013, forcing individuals to purchase coverage through the federal government.
Of course, Members of Congress Page 225 - Section 330 permits—but does not require —Members of Congress to enroll in government-run health care.
Tell them that Nancy Pelosi's latest incarnation of ObamaCare must be defeated. Tell them you are sick and tired of the repeated attempts by liberals in Congress and the Obama Administration to craft egregious “reform” proposals behind closed doors, market that legislation to the American people as something that it is not and then try to ram that legislation through Congress before anyone is any the wiser.
Demand, once and for all, that they stop the deceptions... the secret meetings... the legislative chicanery... the procedural tricks... the dark-of-night votes... the outright lies. Demand that they scrap ObamaCare once and for all and start over with measures that will actually make health care more accessible and affordable to Americans. Demand they defeat H.R. 3962.
