An editorial in a Danish newspaper, citing both foreign and domestic policies pursued by President Barack Obama, is deifying the American political leader.

"Obama is, of course, greater than Jesus – if we have to play that absurd Christmas game," opined the unsigned editorial yesterday in Politiken, which boasts of being Denmark's largest newspaper, in publication since 1884.

The English translation is provided online by Julian Isherwood.

It continued, "But it is probably more meaningful to insist that with today's domestic triumph, that he has already assured himself a place in the history books – a space he has good chances of expanding considerably in coming years."

The newspaper says Obama "is provocative in insisting on an outstretched hand, where others only see animosity."

And while "his tangible results in the short time that he has been active – are few and far between," his words "remain in the consciousness of their audience and have long-term effects."

"He comes from humble beginnings and defends the weak and vulnerable, because he can identify himself with their conditions," the newspaper said. "And no we are not thinking of Jesus Christ, whose birthday has just been celebrated – but rather the President of the United States Barack Hussein Obama."

The editorial noted that "the idea was naturally that the comparison between Jesus and Obama" would be made. "If such a comparison were to be made, it would, of course, inevitably be to Obama's advantage."




The editorial, written on the occasion of a legislative vote in favor of Obama's plan for a health care takeover by the government, cited "the right of every American not to be financially shipwrecked when their health fails" as well as the "biggest ever financial support package in America's history, a major disarmament agreement and the quickest-ever re-establishment of American reputation."

"On the other hand, we have Jesus' miracles that everyone still remembers, but which only benefitted a few. At the same time, we have the wonderful parables about his life and deeds that we know from the New Testament, but which have been interpreted so differently over the past 2000 years that it is impossible to give an unequivocal result of his work," the newspaper said.

"Well we all knew that this day would come," wrote Jeremy Wiggins on the American Family Association blogs.

"We knew that someone on the left side of the political spectrum would ultimately try to compare Barack Obama to Jesus," he wrote.

"What I want to know is this: How is any comparison made between a person who has done NOTHING and someone who has done EVERYTHING? President Obama has bowed before kings, but Jesus will have kings bowing before Him, because HE is THE King of Kings. I guess the closest comparison I could come up with would be comparing Obama to Jesus is like comparing an ant to a skyscraper, not only is one VASTLY greater than the other, but they are not even in the same category to compare!" he wrote.

WND has reported on the multiple references and suggestions of Obama's diety, including when British recording artist Sting said President Obama could be the answer to the world's problems – the divine answer.

"In many ways, he's sent from God, because the world's a mess," he said in interview with the Associated Press as the time.

Earlier, it was an associate editor at a college newspaper who wrote, "Obama is my Jesus."

Maggie Mertens, the associate editor at the campus paper at Massachusetts' Smith College, said, "Obama is my homeboy. And I'm not saying that because he's black – I'm saying that in reference to those Urban Outfitters T-shirts from a couple years ago that said, 'Jesus is my homeboy.' Yes, I just said it. Obama is my Jesus."

Her confession came in the Smithsophian's commentary section recently under the headline: "I Will Follow Him: Obama As My Personal Jesus."

"While you may be overtly religious and find this to be idol-worshipping, or may be overtly politically correct and just know that everything in that sentence could be found offensive, I'm afraid it's true anyway," she wrote.

Also, an artist who planned to unveil a portrait of Obama in a Christ-like pose with a crown of thorns upon his brow canceled the event due to "overwhelming public outrage."

And it was Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan who declared last year that when Obama talks, "the Messiah is absolutely speaking."

There also was the development during Obama's campaign when a website called "Is Barack Obama the Messiah?" captured the wave of euphoria that followed the Democratic senator's remarkable rise.

The site was topped by an Obama quote strategically ripped from a Jan. 7, 2008, speech at Dartmouth College just before the New Hampshire Primary in which he told students, "A light will shine through that window, a beam of light will come down upon you, you will experience an epiphany, and you will suddenly realize that you must go to the polls and vote" for Obama.

Rep. King: ACORN ‘Bigger Than Watergate’

Rep. Steve King says the ACORN saga is “the largest corruption crisis in the history of America” — yet he predicts Congress and the Obama administration won’t take action against the scandal-plagued community organizing group.

"It's thousands of times bigger than Watergate because Watergate was only a little break-in by a couple of guys," the Iowa Republican said in an interview with The American Spectator.

"By the time we pull ACORN out by its roots, America's going to understand just how big this is."

Hidden camera videos emerged in September showing ACORN (Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now) employees advising a couple posing as a pimp and prostitute how to establish a brothel and finance it with government grants.

But it also is accused of political corruption, election fraud, racketeering, money laundering, and countless other violations of the law, according to the American Spectator article written by Matthew Vadum, senior editor at Capital Research Center, a Washington, D.C.-based think tank.

Rep. King, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, said Committee Chairman John Conyers will not investigate ACORN and a probe of the group is “not going to come out of” Chairman Charles Rangel’s Ways and Means Committee or Chairman Barney Frank’s House Financial Services Committee “or from anybody in the Senate. They're going to protect ACORN.

“Congress is deliberately dragging its heels on ACORN,” and Democrats in Congress are “using everything to protect ACORN because that's the machine that keeps them in office,” said King.

The congressman is especially angry over U.S. District Judge Nina Gershon's ruling in favor of ACORN on Dec. 11.

Gershon issued a temporary injunction prohibiting Congress from cutting off funding for ACORN, ruling that the funding ban ordered by Congress was unconstitutional in that it singled out ACORN for punishment without trial. The Department of Justice has reluctantly filed an appeal.

Gershon's ruling is "sweeping and far-reaching, and she even opined that ACORN has some kind of an implicit right to future contracts because they've succeeded in bidding on contracts that were similarly competitive," King said in the interview.

He added that he doesn't hold out much hope that the Obama administration or Congress will decide to investigate ACORN, saying: "This is one-party gangster government and they know what they're doing.”

The amendment doesn’t prohibit abortion coverage for federally subsidized plans participating in the insurance exchange, Boehner says.
“Instead, the amendment includes layers of accounting gimmicks that demand that plans participating in the exchange or the new government-run plan … must establish ‘allocation accounts’ when elective abortion is a covered benefit,” Boehner writes.

“Everyone enrolled in these plans must pay a monthly abortion premium, and these funds will be used to pay for the elective abortion services.”
To be sure, the bill does allow states to opt out of the requirement is they pass laws to prohibit insurance coverage of abortion, Boehner writes.
“But it’s a sham because it does nothing to prevent one state’s tax dollars from paying for elective abortions in other states.”
Boehner isn’t the only abortion opponent upset with the Senate bill.
National Right to Life Committee legislative director Douglas Johnson said in a statement, “The new abortion language solves none of the fundamental abortion-related problems with the Senate bill, and it actually creates some new abortion-related problems.”
But abortion opponents can take heart. Rep. Bart Stupak, D-Mich., and about 40 other Democrats in the House made their support for healthcare reform contingent on a strong anti-abortion provision.
So a bill without such a provision is unlikely to gain final approval in the House, let alone the Senate.

Arkansas police continue to search for two suspects in the shooting death of a Salvation Army major on Christmas Eve.
Salvation Army Major Philip Wise was killed outside the organization’s community center in North Little Rock, Arkansas as his three young children looked on.

Wise had worked for the Salvation Army for 16 years and had been at the Little Rock location for 3 years.
"He was so important to that community," said North Little Rock Police Department spokesman Terry Kuykendahl told FoxNews.com.

"This has been a tremendous blow to (them)."
Thanks to private citizens' donations, police are offering a reward of up to $3,000 for any information leading to the suspects' arrests.
The suspects are described as two African-American males and are believed to be 'armed with handguns.' Police are following up on leads, but are asking the public to help them by contacting them with any bit of information they may have.

Police said the suspects were last seen running on foot towards a government-funding housing community in the area.
One co-worker described Wise as a "big, old teddy bear" who had a passion for music, Kuykendahl told FoxNews.com. Wise was well-known in the community for his work with disadvantaged children.

"Our entire community is saddened by this horrible crime," said North Little Rock Police Department Chief Danny Bradley, according to Todaysthv.com.
"Investigators will be working through the weekend on this case and we'll have a relentless effort to try and find the people who committed this horrible crime."
Arkansas police said two men accosted Philip Wise and his children — ages, 4, 6 and 8 — about 4 p.m. Thursday. He says one man pulled a gun, demanded money and then shot Wise.
Wise's wife, Cindy, also a major in the Salvation Army, was inside the center and called 911, but he died on the scene.

Obama's healthcare bill, the poisoned Kool-Aid making its way through the Senate, will not confer any of its supposed benefits on Americans until 2013. But they will find themselves chafing at its restrictions and paying its taxes immediately after the law takes effect. Then, they will see no gain, but plenty of pain, for the next three years.

This odd juxtaposition of "suffer now, benefit later" is the byproduct of the administration's sleight of hand in specifying ten years worth of cuts and taxes in the legislation, but deferring its benefits for the first four years. By comparing six years of spending with ten years of taxing, it managed to appear deficit neutral under the rules of the Congressional Budget Office. In fact, the annual revenues fall far short of covering any single year's worth of spending, adding to the deficit for each of the last six years over the next ten, but, viewing the decade as a whole, it appears deficit neutral.

Yet the political price is hardly neutral. Democrats who misguidedly vote for this monstrosity will face immediate political repercussions.

The harshest of these backlashes will come from the elderly who will suddenly visit their doctors and be told "no" when they ask for therapies or treatments. The rationing of medical care will start immediately on enactment and, one hopes, the outraged phone calls will start to descend on those whose votes enabled it.

The first "no" will hit the ten million elderly who now rely on Medicare Advantage to pay for the care Medicare itself does not cover. In a payoff to AARP, Obama gutted this program in his bill, ending over $100 billion in federal premium subsidies. These ten million voters will get the grim news that their premiums are going up and their benefits dropping early in 2010. The goal, of course, is to force them to drop Medicare Advantage and sign up, instead, for Medigap insurance — offered, not coincidentally, by the AARP — which provides less coverage at higher cost.

Young people without health insurance can expect to start writing $750 annual checks to Washington to pay the fines written into the bill. (And, after the conference committee finishes its work, the fines may be higher.)

All Americans will soon find their insurance premiums rising as a result of the bill. The young, uninsured will not buy policies. Why should they? Why not just pay the $750 fines each year? Why pay between two percent and 10 percent of their household income before subsidies kick in? It makes no financial sense for anyone making more than $30,000 to pay for coverage. (And most of those under that threshold will be covered by Medicaid, not by private insurance.)

There is no reason for the young to buy private insurance. The legislation requires that health insurers take all comers and not raise rates based on pre-existing conditions. So the young can get coverage when they need it, having only paid $750 per year beforehand.

The difference in cost will, of course, be borne by families throughout America who will see their health insurance premiums increase. President Obama and his Democratic rubber stamps may appreciate that they are not raising taxes on the middle class, just raising mandatory health insurance premiums, but the distinction is likely to be lost on swing voters.

From now on, any increase in health insurance premiums will become the political responsibility of the Obama administration. As Gen. Colin Powell once said of Iraq, "You break it. You own it." Since these premiums have been rising by an average of 10% per year for more than the past decade, this is a legacy most politicians would sensibly avoid if they could.

The language is significantly weaker than Nelson-Stupak amendment which seven Senate Democrats and 64 House Democrats supported.•The bill includes a massive new entitlement -the CLASS Act - which the Democrat chairman of the Budget Committee described as a Ponzi scheme. A bipartisan majority (including 11 Democrats) voted to strike the CLASS Act -- and they should withhold their support. •The billl imposes massive burdens to many states at a time when states are already struggling. Why is President Barrack Obama in such a hurry to get his socialized medicine bill passed?



Because he and his cunning circle realize some basic truths:



The American people in their unimaginable kindness and trust voted for a pig in a poke in 2008.

They wanted so much to believe Barrack Obama was somehow better and different from other ultra-leftists that they simply took him on faith.

They ignored his anti-white writings in his books.

They ignored his quiet acceptance of hysterical anti-American diatribes by his minister, Jeremiah Wright.



They ignored his refusal to explain years at a time of his life as a student.

They ignored his ultra-left record as a "community organizer," Illinois state legislator, and Senator.



The American people ignored his total zero of an academic record as a student and teacher, his complete lack of scholarship when he was being touted as a scholar.



Now, the American people are starting to wake up to the truth.

Barrack Obama is a super likable super leftist, not a fan of this country, way, way too cozy with the terrorist leaders in the Middle East , way beyond naïveté, all the way into active destruction of our interests and our allies and our future.

The American people have already awakened to the truth that the stimulus bill -- a great idea in theory -- was really an immense bribe to Democrat interest groups, and in no way an effort to help all Americans.



Now, Americans are waking up to the truth that ObamaCare basically means that every time you are sick or injured, you will have a clerk from the Department of Motor Vehicles telling your doctor what he can and cannot do.



The American people already know that Mr. Obama's plan to lower health costs while expanding coverage and bureaucracy is a myth, a promise of something that never was and never will be -- a bureaucracy lowering costs in a free society. Either the costs go up or the free society goes away.

These are perilous times.. Mrs. Hillary Clinton, our Secretary of State, has given Iran the go-ahead to have nuclear weapons, an unqualified betrayal of the nation.

Now, we face a devastating loss of freedom at home in health care. It will be joined by controls on our lives to "protect us" from global warming, itself largely a fraud if believed to be caused by man.

Mr. Obama knows Americans are getting wise and will stop him if he delays at all in taking away our freedoms. There is his urgency and our opportunity. Once freedom is lost, America is lost. Wake up, beloved America ..

Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegals and they vote, then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years.

And, like previous versions of government-run health care legislation, the latest ObamaCare bill Harry Reids so-called "compromise" was crafted behind closed doors, under the cover of darkness.

The American people havent even been allowed to read or see Reids compromise bill neither have a large majority of Senators who could be forced to vote on it any day now.

Of course, Obama, Reid and the mainstream media are reporting that this so-called compromise version of ObamaCare means the death of the "public option (Washington speak for government-run health insurance).

"We are committed to achieving the strongest possible outcome in the next two weeks.... There is a deal to be done."

And Obama's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has jumped on the bandwagon as well. The Times added:

"Punctuating the remarks was an announcement by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, which formally declared greenhouse gases a danger to human health and subject to regulation under the Clean Air Act. ... That decision allows the Obama administration to cut down on emissions even if Congress does not pass legislation dealing with climate change."

Make no mistake: this effort is just another scam to redistribute wealth and you and I are the victims of this horrendous scam.

You know what happens when a structure isn't built on a solid foundation--it quickly sinks and collapses. Just as a building can't be constructed on a crumbling foundation, neither can the nation's health care system.

Reports from Washington, D.C., indicate that the U.S. Senate is considering an expansion of Medicare by creating a "buy-in" or "opt-in" program for those ages 55-64, instead of a new public insurance option.

On the surface, this sounds like a workable plan, right? Unfortunately, expanding Medicare will only add to the program's instability—a crumbling foundation. We would like to ensure that health care coverage is built on a solid foundation, and we believe that an insurance exchange and market reforms will provide patients more choices of affordable health care coverage options and better access to care.

The AMA's Patients' Action Network supports health system reform; but Congress needs to fulfill its commitments to current Medicare patients rather than expand its obligations under the program.

1.An increasing number of doctors have been forced to quit accepting Medicare patients because of the program's burdensome regulations and unstable payment system. Adding more patients to the program will force more physicians to make this different decision.

Increasing the number of patients covered by the Medicare program will only increase cost shifting, raising premiums and health care costs for other Americans.

Any fan of Cookie Monster on Sesame Street knows that "C" is for cookie.

But at the Obama White House, "A" may be for acorn -- as in acorn cookies served at Monday's annual Christmas party.

The chocolate cookies shaped like an acorn were quite a hit with Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa.

"I didn't expect to see such stark symbolism," King said in an e-mail.

President Obama worked with the community organizing group ACORN in the mid-90s. But now ACORN faces a host of allegations related to voter fraud in the 2008 election and has been weakened by an undercover expose that shows employees offering tax advice to a couple posing as a pimp and prostitute.

The irony of the White House dishing out acorn-shaped chocolate cookies seemed a little, well, "nutty" to King. The Iowa Republican is one of the loudest voices calling for Congress to investigate ACORN.

King pocketed several of the acorn cookies at the White House soiree and even stowed a few at home in his freezer. King even delivered a real acorn to House Judiciary Committee John Conyers, D-Mich., in an effort to launch a dialogue about the organization's legal woes.

"Bill Clinton redefined a two and a three-letter word," King said, a reference to Clinton's denial of the Lewinsky scandal . "But from the man who wrote 'The Audacity of Hope,' we were served the very redefinition of the word 'audacity.'"

Dear Fellow American,

It may be the most chilling line in 20 th century literature: "He loved Big Brother."

It comes, of course, at the end of George Orwell's masterpiece, Nineteen Eighty-Four. Winston Smith's spirit of rebellion against an all-controlling, all-providing totalitarian state has been not only crushed, but transformed into its opposite.

Now, Winston's only regret is that he spent so much of his former life in "stubborn, self-willed exile from the loving breast" -- of the State, that is.

I'm exaggerating only slightly when I say that that is precisely the "change" that President Obama and his Democrat allies hope to effect in American society -- especially in the hearts and minds of every citizen who ever dared to believe, with Ronald Reagan, that "government isn't the solution; it's the problem."

They don't want us to stop resisting Big Government... they want us to love it.

And how do they hope to accomplish that? The same way, in essence, it was done in Orwell's fictional state: through fear -- though they will induce it in a subtler, more widespread, and efficient way than Winston Smith's oppressors.

Will the Obamacrats succeed? Only if we don't fight back.

And we can't wait until the 2010 and 2012 elections to do it. If we do, the burdens of higher taxes, soaring inflation, and Big Government will be too great of an obstacle to overcome.

That's why it's so important for each and every one of us do whatever we can to maintain our financial independence until that happy day when America tells the Obamacrats and Big Brother himself where to go (electorally speaking, of course).

A group of 10 Senate Democrats, five moderates and five liberals, are working furiously behind the scenes to craft a compromise on the so-called public option plan, or government-funded and administered health care plan, designed to help the uninsured.

"What's in the bill is not going to work, so get behind closed doors and work something out," was the direction Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-NV, gave to the group, according to a senior member of leadership.

"Harry started this process. He called me and said there's five progressives and five moderates - get together and start meeting," Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-WV, said, referring to the leader.

White House officials, including health adviser Nancy Anne DeParle, are near constant fixtures in the Senate hallways and in meetings, working to help find a middle ground. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius was even spotted in the Capitol Saturday, buttonholing members. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar is regularly in negotiations or contacting members.

And on Sunday, the sales jobs gets much more high profile. The President, himself, will travel to the Capitol to speak to his former Senate colleagues, at the invitation of Reid.

The new negotiating group clearly has approached its job with dogged determination, but finding middle ground has eluded everyone so far.

"We're going to keep meeting, and we're going to meet until midnight if it takes that," Rockefeller promised, but finding a compromise is "a wickedly difficult thing to do."

Rockefeller said he "had a good feeling from it," describing the progress of meetings that took place on three occasions Saturday, alone, with another promised for Sunday afternoon, but both he and other participants said the process will take time.

Rockefeller hinted that the goal of getting a bill done by Christmas could certainly slip, as every other deadline placed on this bill thus far has, but he said he considers it a worthwhile effort that should be given the time it takes to find the votes needed for passage. "I want to get this done by Christmas. I also want 60 votes for it, or else we've wasted two years. So this puts a tremendous secondary and tertiary pressure on all of us. And it makes us redefine how strongly we feel about this or that."

Rockefeller is among the more liberal members of the group of 10, having previously pushed for a robust public option that would have tied reimbursement rates to Medicare, a proposal that died in committee. He has said other compromise efforts, like a triggered public option based on affordability, and nonprofit health care cooperatives do not work. But now he says he's looking at other proposals that would require him to make concessions, though he would not define what those were.

Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-NY, a member of leadership and key participant in the negotiations, said the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), the nonpartisan agency that calculates the budgetary effects of legislation, has been given various proposals to analyze, and members are waiting to see the results, a process that could take one week, he said.

Schumer did not exhibit his normal perky optimism that something would get done, where the public option is concerned, but would only say, "We're making good progress, and it's a long hard slog."

"You can't write a bill based on CBO, you have to write a bill based on what's best for the country and get CBO to score it," Schumer said. "It's all in good faith and good spirit...It's complicated. It's many issues, and it takes awhile," though he would not say he was confident a compromise could be reached.

Reid made a somewhat risky decision to exclude some of the more liberal members of the Caucus, like Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-VT, and Sen. Roland Burris, D-IL, both of whom have staked out significantly progressive positions, insistent on a robust public option, but Rockefeller said that was not reason for concern.

"People are open in ways they have not been open before, but some of that could be fatigue," the senator jokingly said, but one member of the group, Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-OH, one of the five liberal members, recently told the Talking Points Memo, "We've compromised the public option three times, maybe four, depending on how you define it. This bill is not going to continue to become more pro-insurance company."

Other members of the group include, on the liberal side: Sens. Tom Harkin, D-IA, and Russ Feingold, D-WI; on the conservative side: Sens. Mary Landrieu, D-LA, Ben Nelson, D-NE, Tom Carper, D-DE, Mark Pryor, D-AR, Blanche Lincoln, D-AR.

And significantly, Rockefeller said Sen. Joe Lieberman, D-CT, is also a member of the group. The Connecticut self-styled independent has said he does not support the public option in any form, fearing a possible massive government bailout at the taxpayers' expense should the program get in trouble financially, but Rockefeller was adamant that Lieberman was at the negotiating table.

Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-ME, the only Republican to vote for any Democratic health care plan so far, attended a meeting with the more moderate members of the larger group. After the meeting, Snowe said, "I'm always talking. It may be possible (to find a compromise), but it depends on how it works." Snowe said moderates were looking to mirror the many insurance options available in the Federal Employee Health Benefits Plan, as part of any compromise.

One sign that there is a possibility for compromise -- members and their aides, who are normally talkative with the press, will not give any details of what's being discussed. That generally means negotiators think there is a real chance of success.

Meanwhile, the Senate is poised to take up a controversial amendment as early as Monday offered by Sen. Ben Nelson that would significantly tighten restrictions on federal funds that could be used to pay for abortions. The Nelson amendment, which is co-sponsored by conservative Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-UT, would mirror a House-passed measure that would ban any health care plans from the public health care exchanges that cover abortion. Women who need the procedure would be required to purchase a separate rider.

This issue hits Reid with another significant problem with votes, just as the public option does. Nelson says that if the current language in the Reid healthcare bill is not changed, he will support a final filibuster of the legislation, something for which Reid would need 60 votes to circumvent.

A senior Senate Democratic leadership aide acknowledged the problem and offered the following scenario, "You have the vote and it fails. Then, from there, it's one of two things: you try to craft the compromise on the (Senate) floor, or you do something in conference."

Reid has, thus far, shown an unwillingness to hash out differences, particularly among Democrats, on the Senate floor. Most of what is being negotiated behind the scenes will be put in what is shaping up to be a massive omnibus bill called a "manager's amendment."

It is hard to see how Reid finds the 60 votes necessary to end debate on the $848 billion healthcare bill, but Democrats are certainly trying to find a way to make that happen

The Obama healthcare initiative will be the biggest unfunded federal mandate on the states in history. It will force dozens of states, particularly in the South, to abandon their low-tax ways and to move toward dramatically higher rates of taxation. It may even force Florida and Texas to impose an income tax!

In the Senate version of the bill, states must expand their Medicaid eligibility to cover everyone with an income that is 133 percent of the poverty level.

The House bill brings it up to 150 percent. But a host of states have kept their state taxes low precisely by so limiting eligibility for Medicaid that it essentially is only for seniors needing long-term care and not for poor younger people who require acute care.

For example, Texas covers only those who make 27 percent of the poverty level or less. Florida covers only 55 percent. Pennsylvania covers only 36 percent. Arkansas covers only 17 percent. North Dakota covers only 62 percent. Nebraska covers only 58 percent. Louisiana covers only 26 percent. Indiana covers only 26 percent.

The revenue required to bring these states up to the 133 percent level in the Senate bill or the 150 percent level in the House would be enormous. Even California only covers up to 106 percent of the poverty level.

All states except for Connecticut, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Vermont and Wisconsin (plus the District of Columbia) will have to raise their eligibility for Medicaid under the Senate healthcare bill. And they will have to pay for part of the cost. Under the House bill, with a higher Medicaid eligibility standard, Massachusetts and Vermont would also have to pay more.

The Medicaid expansion provisions of the Senate bill are complex. In the first year of the program (2013), states must enroll anyone who earns less than 133 percent of the poverty level in their programs. For a family of four, the national average poverty level in 2009 is $22,000 a year. So any family that size that makes less than $29,000 would be eligible for Medicaid.

For the first three years of the program (2013-2015) the federal government would pay for all of the costs of the Medicaid expansion. But starting in the fourth year of operation -- 2016 -- states would be obliged to pay 10 percent of the extra cost.

While Obama has often spoken about how he won't raise taxes on the middle class, his healthcare legislation will require the governors to do so.

Particularly in those states with Democratic governors, it is easy to see how the backlash against these new taxes could fundamentally alter state politics.

The following table is a rough calculation of the cost each state will have to bear once it has to pick up 10 percent of the cost. These calculations are based on guidelines laid down for me by the Republican staff of the Senate Finance Committee. There has been no official data yet generated on how much the Senate or House provisions will cost the taxpayers in each state.

These estimates were obtained by calculating the increase in Medicaid spending in each state to bring it up to the 133 percent level specified in the Senate bill. Then I applied the percentage of Medicaid spending in each state on acute care (mainly for the poor) as opposed to long-term care (mainly for the elderly). Finally, I took 10 percent of the increased state share of spending and listed it in the table above.

In July 2007, Barack Obama promised a group of his supporters that, if elected president, he would sign perhaps the most evil piece of legislation in the history of our republic.

It's called the "Freedom of Choice Act," or FOCA -- but don't let the Orwellian title fool you. It isn't about "freedom" or "choice" at all. It's about forcing each and every American citizen -- regardless of his or her view on abortion -- to support abortion-on-demand not just as a "fundamental right" but as a taxpayer-funded entitlement.

But the compulsion wouldn't stop there. Because FOCA would also run roughshod over the conscience rights of doctors, nurses, and hospitals that oppose abortion on religious or moral grounds -- forcing them to provide or counsel for abortion or face professional de-certification, loss of funding, lawsuits, and even prosecution.

Not only that, FOCA would immediately strike down any and all state restrictions on abortion -- even those with wide popular support, such as prohibitions on partial-birth abortion and parental notification requirements for minors seeking abortions.

Make no mistake: FOCA is the most radical piece of pro-abortion legislation ever proposed, one that would go far beyond Roe v. Wade in making abortion a government-protected and taxpayer-supported "right," through all nine months of pregnancy.

But also, by delaying, they can lull their pro-life opponents into thinking that FOCA has been tabled, while quietly building support for it in a stealth propaganda campaign that is already underway using major media outlets -- such as the Washington Post, which ran a piece in its "On Faith" section called "Why Fear FOCA?"

But with your help, HUMAN EVENTS will defeat the pro-abortionists' "stealth" media campaign with its own media blitzkrieg designed to counter pro-FOCA lies and propaganda with the facts.

This venerable and much honored WW II vet is well known in Hawaii for his seventy-plus years of service to patriotic organizations and causes all over the country. A humble man without a political bone in his body, he has never spoken out before about a government official, until now. He dictated this letter to a friend, signed it and mailed it to the president.
Dear President Obama,
My name is Harold Estes, approaching 95 on December 13 of this year. People meeting me for the first time don't believe my age because I remain wrinkle free and pretty much mentally alert.
I enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1934 and served proudly before, during and after WW II retiring as a Master Chief Bos'n Mate. Now I live in a "rest home" located on the western end of Pearl Harbor allowing me to keep alive the memories of 23 years of service to my country.
One of the benefits of my age, perhaps the only one, is to speak my mind, blunt and direct even to the head man.So here goes.
I am amazed, angry and determined not to see my country die before I do but you seem hell bent not to grant me that wish.
I can't figure out what country you are the president of. You fly around the world telling our friends and enemies despicable lies like:

America is arrogant" - (Your wife even announced to the world," America is mean-spirited. "Please tell her to try preaching that nonsense to 23 generations of our war dead buried all over the globe who died for no other reason than to free a whole lot of strangers from tyranny and hopelessness.) I'd say shame on the both of you but I don't think you like America nor do I see an ounce of gratefulness in anything you do for the obvious gifts this country has given you. To be without shame or gratefulness is a dangerous thing for a man sitting in the White House.
After 9/11 you said," America hasn't lived up to her ideals." Which ones did you mean?
1. Was it the notion of personal liberty that 11,000 farmers and shopkeepers died for to win independence from the British?
2. Or maybe the ideal that no man should be a slave to another man that 500,000 men died for in the Civil War?
3. I hope you didn't mean the ideal 470,000 fathers, brothers, husbands, and a lot of fellas I knew personally died for in WWII, because we felt real strongly about not letting any nation push us around because we stand for freedom.
4. I don't think you mean the ideal that says equality is better than discrimination. You know the one that a whole lot of white people understood when they helped to get you elected.
Take a little advice from a very old geezer, young man. Shape up and start acting like an American. If you don't, I'll do what I can to see you get shipped out of that fancy rental on Pennsylvania Avenue .You were elected to lead not to bow, apologize and kiss the hands of murderers and corrupt leaders who still treat their people like slaves.
And just who do you think you are telling the American people not to jump to conclusions and condemn that Muslim major who killed 13 of his fellow soldiers and wounded dozens more. You mean you don't want us to do what you did when that white cop used force to subdue that black college professor in Massachusetts who was putting up a fight? You don't mind offending the police calling them stupid but you don't want us to offend Muslim fanatics by calling them what they are terrorists.

One more thing; I realize you never served in the military and never had to defend your country with your life but you're the Commander-in-Chief now,son. Do your job. When your battle-hardened field General asks you for 40,000 more troops to complete the mission, give them to him. But if you're not in this fight to win, then get out. The life of one American soldier is not worth the best political strategy you're thinking of.

You could be our greatest president because you face the greatest challenge ever presented to any president.

You're not going to restore American greatness by bringing back our bloated economy. That's not our greatest threat. Losing the heart and soul of who we are as Americans is our big fight now. And I sure as hell don't want to think my president is the enemy in this final battle.
